  13.                       Hark! the Christmas bells are ringing-
  14.                            Ringing through the frosty air-
  15.                       Happiness to each one bringing,
  16.                            And release from toil and care.
  17.  
  18.                       How the merry peal is swelling
  19.                            From the gray old crumbling tower,
  20.                       To the simplest creature telling
  21.                            Of Almighty love and power.
  22.  
  23.                       Ankle-deep the snow is lying,
  24.                            Every spray is clothed in white,
  25.                       Yet abroad the folk are hying,
  26.                            Brisk and busy, gay and light.
  27.  
  28.                       Now fresh helps and aid are offered
  29.                            To the aged and the poor,
  30.                       And rare love exchanges proffered
  31.                            At the lowliest cottage door.

  33.                       Neighbors shaking hands and greeting,
  34.                            No one sorrowing, no one sad,
  35.                       Children, loving parents meeting,
  36.                            Young and old alike are glad.
  37.  
  38.                       Then while Christmas bells are ringing,
  39.                            Rich and poor, your voices raise,
  40.                       And  -your simple carol singing -
  41.                       Waft to heaven your grateful praise.
